A Short Story (just because)
Once again she woke up in a cold sweat. Every time she had the dream it became harder and harder for her to get the images out of her head. Tara Goodman had been having the same dream every night for the past two weeks. It always started the same way. She found herself in a dark hallway in an apartment building that was unfamiliar to her. When she got to the end of the hall a door opened and a man with a hood on stepped out, grabbed her and pulled her into the apartment. He shut and locked the door, then turned his attention on her. “Who are you? What do you want? She asked.
He walked over to her grabbed her and threw her down on the ground. The man always replied the same way. “I am your salvation. I want to relieve you of your nightmares.” He straddled her body raised a ceremonial blade above his head, murmured an incantation, removed his hood, and plunged the knife deep into her chest. Then she would wake up. She never did see who it was even though he removed his hood. It was always a blank face.
She figured it was just a memory from her childhood placing itself in her subconscious when she slept. She had no family so at the age of twelve she began soliciting herself for money or food, sometimes even just for a place to sleep. Here first John was a man that had wore a hood so she figured this was the reason for the dreams. When she turned twenty-one she moved to America hoping to have a better life and ahe could leave her sordid past behind her. She knew that when she came to America things would be different. She had only been in America for two days when she met the man of her dreams. They were married three months later. They lived in a fancy apartment in New York. She got the job of a lifetime at an art gallery and was finally living the good life.
When she woke up this morning she was ready to have the time of her life. That evening they were having an art show at the gallery and all the big shots would be there. It was finally her time to shine. She was invited to show off some of her work at the art show. She just knew this was her big break. Her husband was absolutely thrilled for her even if he was a bit jealous of her success. By noon she had forgotten all about her dream. After work she went home to get ready for the art show. Her husband had already showered and was dressed and ready to go. It only took her half an hour to get ready.
It was such a beautiful night that they decided to walk. The gallery was only two blocks away and she had walked it many times. As they were walking her husband stopped outside an apartment building and told her to wait there. He just needed to make sure his co-worker had all the paper work for tomorrow’s meeting. She stood there for almost an hour when she finally decided to go looking for him.
She stepped inside and walked almost to the end of the hall before she realized it was the hallway in her dream. She became extremely nervous. She heard a noise behind her and turned around to see that it was only a cat knocking over a broom that the janitor had left out. When she turned back around she was at the end of the hall and the door to her right had opened. She didn’t have time to think. The hooded man in her dream had grabbed her and pulled her into the apartment. Her head was reeling. She couldn’t believe this was happening. He threw her to the ground and straddled her.
The dream had come true. He took off the hood. It was her husband and this is the words he spoke. “I am your salvation. I want to relieve you of your nightmares. I was the one that took your innocence in Japan and have regretted it ever since. I have tried everything to make myself forget about that day. I now know the only way to forget about it is to rid myself of you for good.” He spoke those last words as he plunged the knife deep into her chest. The last thought that came to her mind was, “So this is what you do when dreams bleed.”
The Japanese police found her dead in a field naked and stabbed. They knew her well, no family, no friends; just another body for the state to bury.

Did you really have the dream? I have written a book that was given to me through meditation.
